MAGNUM PHOTO AGENCY

Magnum Photos Agency currently showcases around 100  photographers from diverse regions and backgrounds. These photographers work across documentary, fine art, and journalistic photography, contributing to the cooperative’s storied legacy in global storytelling.

Magnum’s Photographers have historically been predominantly male, with a recent shift towards more diverse gender representation. Despite this, the majority of Magnum’s photographers remain European or North American men. However, with newer members from regions like the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia, Magnum is expanding its perspectives.

Bruce Davidson

Bruce Davidson, born in Oak Park, in 1933, is a revered American photographer known for his in-depth and socially engaged documentary work. He developed an interest in photography early on and later studied at Rochester Institute of Technology and Yale.


Brooklyn Gang (1959)
One of Davidson’s most acclaimed projects is “Brooklyn Gang” (1959), where he documented a teenage gang, offering a raw glimpse into their lives and struggles.


East 100th Street (1970)

This iconic series, “East 100th Street” (1970), explores life in Harlem through powerful portraits that highlight both the dignity and challenges of residents in a New York City neighbourhood.


Subway (1980)

His “Subway” series (1980), shot in color, vividly captures the diversity, vibrancy, and grit of New York’s subway system at a time when it was a symbol of urban decline.


Central Park (1991-1995)

His works also extend to landscapes, as seen in “Central Park” (1991-1995), which explores the natural and social diversity of one of New York’s most iconic locations.
